Competiton: The most beautiful books of Romania 2015

The book design national competition The most beautiful books of Romania 2015 edition launched its call for entries.

Publishers, authors, illustrators, and designers from Romania and Moldova are invited to enter into this competition their books published within the last year (August 2014 – August 2015).

Applications are received until the September 3rd. The regulation that describes the conditions of participation and application form can be downloaded here.

The selection will take place betwen September 7-12, and the jury will select a minimum of 25 beautiful books that will be showed to the public as a travelling exhibition in Romania and abroad. All the books selected by the jury will represent Romania in the international competition, Best Book Design from All Over the World, Leipzig 2016 .

This year’s jury will award the following prizes: The Grand Prize, A Special Mention, The Award for Book Illustration, The Award for Children’s Book, The Award for Album,  The Award for Educational Books / MANUAL Award for Young Designer, The Award for Artist Books and The Award for Typographic Experiment.

The prize awarded for the young designer is offered by ICR and the National Book Centre, and it consists in support towards the participation in an international book fair abroad.

The jury members are: Agnes Keszeg (illustrator), Angela Rotaru (creative director, Humanitas), Barna Nemethi (photographer / creative director Griffon & Swans ), Arina Stoenescu (graphic designer, Sweden), Hajdu Aron (editor, Bookart), Daniela Chiorean (graphic designer, UAD) and Valéria Vanguelov (her participation is made possible by the French Institute in Bucharest).

The selected books will be showcased in the exhibition The most beautiful books of Romania 2015 which will open in Bucharest in early October.

The books will be displayed at The International Book Fair in Frankfurt in Romania’s Pavilion. There will follow a series of exhibitions with the finalist books in Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Timișoara, Tîrgu Mureș, Sibiu, as well as in international book fairs in Belgrade, Istanbul, Sofia, followed by Leipzig, Paris, London, Bologna, and Budapest in 2016.
