Theresa Roessler
Theresa Roessler is an independent curator and writer currently based in Berlin (DE). Her practice addresses issues around the politics and cultures of memory, and explores the aesthetic strategies and methods of storytelling through which artists engage with archives and archive-making. After completing her studies in art history, media philosophy, curatorial studies, and exhibition design in Vienna (AT), Karlsruhe (DE), and Dublin (IR), she gained professional experience at galleries, museums, and art associations, including Arratia Beer (Berlin, DE), Kunstverein Braunschweig (Braunschweig, DE), and ZKM | Center for Art and Media (Karlsruhe, DE), among others. From 2020 to 2023, she worked as a curator at Kunstverein Freiburg (Freiburg, DE), where she curated exhibitions such as "Mock Kings" by Jala Wahid (2023), "On the Brink of Remembering" (2022), and "Owls and Promises" by Alex Ayed (2022).
Theresa has also developed independent curatorial projects, such as the group show "Taking Notes" (2023) within the 15th edition of the international gallery festival curated by at Galerie SOPHIE TAPPEINER (Vienna, AT). In April 2024, Fatima Moallim’s first exhibition in Austria, curated by Theresa, will open at tart vienna (Vienna, AT). Her most recent writing has been published in Springerin, Camera Austria, and PW Magazine.
